While investigating Handbrake I did run accross several references to ffmpeg. Basically, Handbrake doesn’t provide the capability to MUX or copy streams from one container (the mts file) to another container. My suspicions were confirmed when I ran across this post. My initial test with handbrake led me to believe that handbrake was always transcoding, even if the source and destination contained the same codec. I had to pull the STREAMS file out of the BDMV file and open that folder in Handbrake. It also would not open the BDMV file inside the AVCHD file after I moved it out of that container. I took a look at Handbrake first to do the conversions. I then decided to research each of these tools to figure out what would best suit my needs. I had previously installed Handbrake and Makemkv their websites do a great job of explaining the install.
